Ito Gasper - Decrepit Synthesis
The debut EP from Ito Gasper on Maison Fauna contains four tracks of what the artist lovingly refers to as “evil gay techno.” Translation for the uninitiated: pounding but spacious industrial techno meets hardcore/rave. The first three tracks pair grinding, four on the floor grooves with the type of dance floor aware curveballs (like breakbeat snippets and vocal chops) that are becoming Gasper’s calling card. Eerie, meticulously chopped samples and warm laser chirps weave into sonic tapestries that envelope and build steadily while kick drums relentlessly wallop. Track four takes influences from hardcore, ghetto tech, and classic rave. The end result: a collection of songs—each of which could be a single in its own right—that serve as a strong thesis from an artist who is about to elbow his way (deservedly) into the minds, ears, and sets of top tier DJs.
